Focus as a competitive advantage
Without it you can end up getting busy without direction and thus getting no where.
Focus is a competitive advantage.
Without it you can end up getting busy without direction and thus getting no where.
Focus and clarity will save you a lot of frustration & wasted effort. - sharpen the axe before you start chopping down the tree.
I pinched this quote from Nathan Baugh:
‘Working hard will not get you ahead.
Focusing your time and effort effectively is much more likely to make you successful.
Example: Leo Messi walks 83% of a soccer game.
The other 17% makes him the best player in the world’
There are various layers to focus.
The first is direction.
The second is clarity.
The third is application.
Direction:
If you don’t know where you are going then it doesn’t matter what you do.
Before you do anything you need some direction.
What is the purpose of your business? What do you want to create? What do you want your business to look like? Who do you want to help?
Clarity:
Direction will give you clarity. Figuring out the goal of your business gives you direction and once you’ve identified those two things then the next step becomes clear.
Application:
Intent gets you no where without action.
How do you apply this to actions?
What do you need to do consistently to make sure you are working in the direction of your goal?
I like to implement the 80/20 principle.
This is the observation that 80% of your results come from about 20% of your actions. You just need to identify what those 20% are.
Online coaching example:
If you know the vast majority of your clients come from instagram it would make a lot of sense to focus your efforts there and make your content as good as it can be.
The temptation is to try and break into linkedIN, tiktok, email marketing, blog writing, podcasting and you simply end up diluting your efforts.
This is where FOCUS comes in.
Focus on 1 short form (e.g. instagram) and 1 long form (e.g. a podcast) platform, you will get far better results doing this than diluting your efforts over numerous platforms.Your time and energy are finite. Make sure you focus them in the right places. There is no sense in working hard on things that don’t move you towards your goal.
