A simple framework to always be above average…
3 key areas:
Health
Wealth
Relationships
+ 3 simple principles for each.
If you follow these you won’t go far wrong.
Health:
Move! - Walk everywhere you can (assuming you are privileged enough to be able to do so)
Exercise - Minimum every other day (ideally resistance train but anything you enjoy is good!)
Sleep - I know not always easy and seems like a weird thing to prioritise if, like me, you are action orientated but everything is a tonne easier when you sleep well. A good nights sleep does wonders for your mood, productivity, focus, creativity, resilience, problem solving and just general ability to enjoy your busy & full life.
Nutrition:
(I’ve cheated here and added 3 for nutrition here)
Snack less - focus on sitting down and eating meals rather than constantly grazing this will help with calorie management, food quality, digestion, metabolic health and concentration.
Protein- Can’t not mention protein. I would argue the only truly essential macronutrient (you can synthesise glucose yourself and essential levels of fat are easily met assuming your diet is not extreme)
Slow down & eat intentionally based on how you want to feel- Eating slower is associated with a lower BMI & eating intentionally and considering your food choices will improve the quality of your diet.
Bonus: this realisation is a game changer for fat loss,,
Success comes from damage control on your ‘bad days’, not perfection.
Focus on improving your average - minimising your ‘bad’ days is the best way to do this rather than trying to make your good days perfect
Wealth:
Spend less than you earn and invest the rest.
Spend intentionally - i.e not to impress others.
Match your luxury spend with investment (or getting rid of high interest debt). E.g want to buy a fancy coffee that costs £4.60 because you live in London waaah… well also match that with investing or paying off you’re debt.
Not sure you can afford that designer bag? Can you match the cost with investment?
I find this creates a nice balance between rewarding your hard work & being an absolute Scrooge and just saving all your money ( it is meant to be enjoyed! you can’t take it with you)
Bonus:
Start early & let compounding interest work in your favour (reminder: the earliest you can start is now).
Relationships
Communicate - talk about the hard things that go unsaid with kindness and an aim to understand.
Say the nice things you think - you will make someone’s day and most people have no idea how highly you think of them. Tell those people in your life often.
Self-Awareness – know your tendencies, your needs, patterns, and boundaries.
Bonus:
Treat others how you want to be treated not necessarily how they treat you.
Sure, you might find that’s not always reciprocated but thats not your problem.
Aim to leave everyone better than you found them
