“I’m doing everything the same… so why can’t I lose weight anymore?”
You’re not imagining it but its not insulin, cortisol, aging, metabolism or inflammation
I get messages like this every single day.
“I’m doing everything the same… so why can’t I lose weight anymore?”
You absolutely could be doing what you used to do and now not getting results
it’s very plausible.
When women diet repeatedly over decades especially without resistance training they often end up:
Losing lean mass + Reducing NEAT/movement = lower energy expenditure.
You might be eating the same as what you did at 30 but not getting resutls because:
You have less muscle
You move less
You don’t sleep as well
Your activity has reduced.
Your energy expenditure is lower.
And life stress is higher.
Your metabolism hasn’t crashed or anything drastic.
But if you’ve lost 3-5kg of muscle over a decade and your daily movement has dropped by 2-4000 steps without you noticing,
that could easily be 200–400 calories a day difference.
That’s often the entire deficit for most women.
You genuinely could be doing what you used to do but not getting the results you want. Don’t let people tell you that it’s all in your head, it’s not. But it’s not insulin, cortisol, inflammation, aging or your metabolism either.
You are not broken. You don’t need a hormone detox. You don’t need to cut carbs. You don’t need to fear cortisol or worry about insulin and inflammation.
You need a strategy that matches your current situation. And what worked for you before may not work for you now because you are not the same, your life is not the same and thus you need a different approach.
To be clear the different approach for fat loss is still creating a calories deficit. We just may need to create it in a different way.
