Many of us wait to do something until we are good at it.
The obvious problem here being that you have to start to get good at anything.
Classic examples:
I will wait until I am a bit fitter to go to the gym.
I will wait until I am more confident to give a talk on stage.
I will wait until I am good at writing to start a substack.
It’s the DOING that increases fitness, confidence & ability.
You won’t be mega fit in your first workout and you won’t be hella confident in your first talk.
You have to start before you feel ready.
As adults we have learnt to fear failure rather than embrace it.
Usually because we are worried of what others might think.
In reality they probably aren’t thinking about you at all.
(Interesting side note.. this phenomenon is known as the spotlight effect. It describes how people tend to believe that others are paying more attention to them than they actually are—in other words, our tendency to always feel like we are “in the spotlight.” - Decision Labs)
The truth is: you will probably fail along the way…
If you always wait until you are sure you won’t fail to start then you simply won’t start.
& it’s certainly better to have tried and failed than never tried at all.
Love this!
