One of the most important skills you will learn when you coach women to lose fat is convincing them they need to eat more than 1200 calories (thanks diet culture).
Often women who work with me initially feel then are eating too much to lose fat.
They aren’t. They are just fuelling themselves better which always results in better fat loss long term.
However, it’s important to adjust expectations as you are less likely to see results in a week (results you can’t maintain anyway as you achieved them by sticking to 800 calories a day).
The lack of expected results within a week often results in the assumption that higher calories (still in a significant deficit) don’t work and that you need to be restrictive to see any results.
The typical response is to go back to what didn’t work before - over restriction. You then get stuck in this pattern of over restriction and over indulgence aka yo-yo dieting.
This cycle often repeats for DECADES!
I want to be VERY clear about this.
The issue here isn’t that you can’t lose fat on sensible calories.
It is your expectation of weight loss within a week.
My advice?
Give it 30 days.
If the scales freak you out… don’t weigh yourself.
Let me set your targets based on you & your goals (this part isn’t rocket science but I have a slightly different approach to most)
& then stick to this consistently for 30 days before you assume it’s not working.
You will be surprised by your results WITHOUT over restriction.
