I am convinced that dehabitulization is the key to gratitude.
Let me explain..
We become habitulised to everything - good things and bad things.
Remember how absolutely buzzing every one was to even sit in the living room with their families after covid? And now it’s the norm and boring again.
How incredible does it feel to just feel normal when you’ve been unwell?
Even your fancy new car that you’ve wanted for years becomes the norm and stops bringing you pleasure after just a few weeks.
Here is a sexy lil visual to bring this to life:
We become habitulised to unpleasant experiences too..
Last week I viewed a flat that smelt like cigarette smoke. I remember thinking ‘f**king hell it absolutely stinks in here’ and after being there for less than 5 mins I couldn’t smell it any more.
The scarier part of this is we also become habitulised to how people treat us ‘they are always rude’ ‘She always talks over me’ ‘He never asks how I am’ - you stop noticing it after a while because it’s the norm.
Use this as is a wake up call to re-sensitise yourself so that you can start noticing these things again.
What in your life is like the smell of smoke? Something you’ve just become used to and accepted as the norm.
What in your life is incredible that you’ve stopped being grateful for?
Awesome email as always Emma hope the flat works out!
