The number one reason people don’t achieve their goals is universal. It’s because they give up.
I am stating the obvious here but once you realise this it’s easier to come up with solutions.
You can then reverse engineer success.
Now that you know the reason you haven’t been successful (yet) is that you give up, you can come up with solutions.
The most effective way I have found to avoid giving up is to practice self compassion.
In fact, I would go so far as to say self compassion is the secret to dieting success.
How people think self compassion works:
You go too easy on yourself, lower your standards & get nothing done.
How self compassion actually works:
You remove the excuse you have to give up when things aren’t perfect.
You dust yourself off and try again when it doesn’t work out.
You don’t give up & thus you get far better results.
A great frame for self compassion is to ‘parent yourself’
You wouldn’t let your child eat donuts all day.
But equally you wouldn’t punish them for eating one every now and again.
You wouldn’t tell them to give up if they missed one gym session, you wouldn’t tell them they are worthless if they didn’t stick to the plan perfectly from day one…
& yet you do that to yourself.
It’s hardly encouraging, is it?
Scrap that and start encouraging yourself in the same way you would encourage someone who you want to succeed!
