This week I had a conversation with one of my AFM coaches who was explaining she had a call with a woman who was interested in signing up but price was an issue - even though the potential client did say that she spends more on wine and take aways than the cost of coaching.
I also saw post on instagram from a coach saying you spend this amount on XYZ - nights out, coffee, take aways, designer clothes… but you say coaching is too expensive and that actually isn’t what people are saying and its often not that they don’t value it either…
The immediate responses usually well if you spend that much on other things and not coaching then you don’t prioritise your health or you don’t want it enough or something a long those lines but its a little deeper than that….
1) Investing in yourself is scary as hell.
2) The obvious that investing in a lump sum is scary and sounds like A LOT vs how coffee or take aways add up e.g. £200 a month for coaching sounds like a lot of money even if you do spend more than that on wine and take outs. I spend more than that on coffee but I also see coffee as an investment in my happiness, productivity and co working environment.
3) this is the deeper part… investing in yourself is extra scary when you don’t believe in yourself.
Many women I work with have tried and failed on diets numerous times before.
Often clients are betting on themselves to give up like every other time.
If you’re in this mindset then investing in yourself feels a lot like ordering your dinner on uber eats and saying - I live on this street and hoping that they pick your door. How much would you invest in that dinner?
or ordering a pair of shoes and hoping it comes to your door when you know there is only a 1 in 10 chance it will.. assuming you live on a street with 10 houses.
Add to that the fact that you’ve tried ordering these shoes before and none of ending up arriving - are you going to for the shoe you really want? The expensive one?
Or go for a cheaper one so if it doesn’t come you’ve not wasted as much money?
When you don’t believe in yourself it’s very hard to invest in yourself and even when you do giving up ‘like every other time’ often becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
This is why it’s so important to make sure people believe in themselves, believe that they are capable with your support and anyone reading this… you absolutely are!
We are damn good at supporting people to lose fat and keep it off.. in fact we specialise in people that have tried and failed in the past.
There is method and psychology behind all of our coaching principles - we know it’s not as simple as just telling you what to do. In fact I did poll this week asking people what was holding them back and 75% of people answered knowing what to do but not doing it.
That is the problem we build commit to 6 to solve.
